tCaptcha

A private, user-friendly CAPTCHA

With tCaptcha, there is no selecting pictures of cars, identifying crosswalks, or spending hours debating whether the fraction of the traffic light in a square should be selected, only to be marked as a robot. All you have to do to solve a tCaptcha is click a checkbox. It's that simple! No secondary checks, no endless image identification screens. At the moment you click the checkbox, tCaptcha will label you as either a human or robot, and if labeled as a robot, tCaptcha provides a helpful suggestion and lets you try again. The best part is that tCaptcha is fully private. All computation is done on-device, and only the final result (human/robot) is sent to the server for server-side validation.

Ironically, traditional CAPTCHAs are becoming easier for bots and more difficult for humans to solve. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be used to easily classify images in a fraction of the time it takes a human. Additionally, most bots pay people to solve the CAPTCHA over the internet. However, bots cannot ask someone to solve the tCaptcha unless the person is physically at the computer and has interacted with the page. At this point, there's no reason to use a bot, since a human could do the task in the same amount of time. Bots cannot use traditional techniques and established CAPTCHA solver sites to perform mass requests and can only feasibly perform 1 request at a time by asking a human at the computer to interact with the page, just like a normal human request. At this point, the bot cannot spam any forms and can only go as fast as anyone else.

Other CAPTCHA services (such as reCAPTCHA) that avoid image classification track tons of data which is sent to a server and can be traced back to you, and these CAPTCHA services also typically perform a secondary check of image classification. tCaptcha performs computation on-device and only sends the final result to the server before the form is submitted (so that the human verification can happen server-side), yet the tCaptcha computations are still protected in a similar way to other CAPTCHAs.
